Working Safely


Working safely is for people at any level, in any sector, needing grounding in the essentials of health and safety. Everyone at work should have an understanding of why they must ‘work safely’ – and this course offers exactly that.

Supervising Safely

Supervising safely is for those working in supervisory or team leader positions. The course is structured to ensure that those who are directly in charge of the workforce understand their responsibilities, workplace hazards, risks and controls.
With an emphasis on behaviour, team leaders and supervisors will gain an understanding of the potential for accidents and how to avoid them. Thus contributing to their employer’s health and safety objectives, as well as fulfilling their own moral and legal duties.

Managing Safely

Managing safely is for managers and supervisors in any sector, and any organisation. It’s designed to get managers up to speed on the practical actions they need to take to handle health and safety in their teams.
The course covers:

  • Managing common hazards: fire, electricity, noise, manual handling, chemicals & substance and DSE
  • Investigating accidents and incidents
  • Measuring health and safety performance
  • Protecting our environment
Directing Safely for Small to Medium Businesses

The Directing Safely course is intended for directors and executive managers in small to medium-sized organisations who wish to raise their awareness of health and safety legislation. The IOSH Directing Safely course also covers documentation and procedures required, with particular relevance to existing company procedures and health and safety policy.
The Directing Safely course is valid for directors and executive managers across all sectors and industries, but is focussed on small to medium sized organisations.
The course Covers:
  • The legal framework
  • Risk assessment
  • Health and safety management
  • The causes of accidents
  • Requirements, potential penalties and financial implications

Managing Safely and Supervising Safely Refresher one-day courses are also available to update delegates on any changes to legislation and best practices. To be eligible for the refresher course delegates must have passed the corresponding full IOSH course within the last 3 years and provide supporting documentation.
